The Darjeeling Limited Less Limiting For Wes Anderson?

The Darjeeling Express
I’ve been waiting for a long while to feel that vintage Wes Anderson feeling. Since Royal Tenenbaums to be exact. I expected too much from Life Aquatic and left disappointed, and what’s going on with the Fantastic Mr. Fox? If there’s one thing I do like about Anderson it’s the compositions. The wonderfully placed cameras, the beautiful details, the symmetry. That is why a movie placed smack in the heart of India can’t be anything but gorgeous. The poster and the trailer (which surfaced today) seem to point in the right direction. It’s not Rushmore, but perhaps a more mature and nuanced take on brotherly relations then Bottle Rocket? It’s all glorious speculation for now.

You guys are being Aquatic haters. I really liked that film. Royals is better, but Bottle Rocket is near unwatchable. This film looks like fun. All roady and emo.

I don’t dislike Aquatic, but I expected so much and did not feel satisfied. I think the Noah Baumbach + Wes combo (Life Aquatic) isn’t as effective as the Owen Wilson + Wes combo (Tenenbaums, Rushmore) when it comes to script writing. With Darjeeling, Wes is trying a third partnership with Roman Coppola, writer/director of CQ, another movie that started off strong and then lost its way. I’m trying to lower my expectations a bit on this one so that I will mitigate any disappointment. But it’s hard. Since Life Aquatic, the only thing Anderson has released is an American Express commercial. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=spCknVcaSHg)
